Best way to travel from Naples to the Amalfi Coast – Positano (Italy). Bus or Taxi?
Estimated cost for a taxi? (Naples Train station to Hotel in Positano)
Where would I find a bus schedule? Website?
Well as already said you can have different choices
1Train you must go to Salerno first then from Salerno: SITA bus to Amalfi/Positano
2 Circumvesuviana (which is an inner train) from Napoli, inside the Central Station
2 SITA bus strigth from Napoli (also near to the Central Station)
3 Ferry (from the port)
4 Taxi
1 This is easy since you take the train to Salerno and then from there take the bus to Positano, you pay a bit more then option 2 and have to make sure to take the connecting bus, anyway all are scheduled so with a bit of planning can be done.
2 this is relatively cheap and easy since there are scheduled train every day. It is advisable not to take the train late in the day (aprox 5 Euro per person)
3 this is the cheapest, also easy to get but you must make sure to take the right one, so unless you don’t speak a bit of italian this could be a bit problematic. (aprox 3 Euro)
4 This is relatively expensive, and you mast get to the port, it however a nice trip since you see the all bay, there are scheduled ferries and there is also a web site where to check
5 This is the most expensive way to get there, yon may even go for for 100 Euro.
Anyhow did you check with your hotel if there is a pick up service, normally it should be it or it could be arranged (however this also could be expensive)

Florence is so beautiful. You will be able to visit Piazza della Signoria and Palazzo Vecchio, its Duomo (cathedral), the Baptistry (its exterior made of green and white marble are really famous) and the Ponte Vecchio (old bridge). Florence isn’t a huge city, you’re have gonna a great time and a good idea of how the city really is. You won’t be able to have a full visit of Uffizi in Florence maybe, but you can choose certain rooms: e.g. Leonardo or Michelangelo. Keep in mind Uffizi timetable Tuesday-Sunday, 8:15 am – 6:50 pm. If you’re looking for a good hotel in Florence go to http://www.scoobit.com/florence-hotel.php I went to the third hotel on the left. Nice and clean place, incredibly located. But feel free to choose the hotel that best fits your needs. Scoobit.com is to me the best website for hotels in Italy. You can book on line and there are no booking fees. To go from Florence to the Amalfi coast catch a train http://www.ferroviedellostato.it/homepage_en.html the journey is about 3 hours. Planes would be just too expencive.
Traveling by Train in Italy. Should I book tickets from Canada before hand or when we get there?
And do we need a train pass or just buy them individual?
Venice june 21-23
Florence June 24-27 (train Venice to Florence)
Amalfi Coast (Train Florence to Naples) June 28-July 2
Rome July 3-6 (Train Naples to Rome)
If you are positive of your travel dates buy them online:
1. It’s fast and convenient. No going out of your way to go to the train station or arriving early to wait in line (sometimes there are long lines at the self-serve machines too), risking that you miss your train.
2. You get an eticket so you don’t have to worry whether or not you have stamped your ticket before you board. When the ticket taker comes around just give him your receipt number or the credit card you paid with and that’s it.
3. They offer special deals on the website not available elsewhere. There are things like 2-for-1 and other online discounts offered on a certain number of seats, so best to buy early too. For an example of savings, a friend of mine was able to go first class on the fastest train from Naples to Rome for less than the price of 2nd class on a slower train.
I live in Italy and I always buy my tickets online.
Here’s the train system’s website: www.trenitalia.com. They have an English version.
Can I rent a car in Zurich and drive to Venice? or is the train better? I will be in Italy for 2 weeks?
At some point during my trip I will need a car to explore the amalfi coast up to Lake como…I’m just triying to decide if I should have the car for the entire trip…or just part of it.
Take a train from Zurich to Venice, and then rent a car in Italy. Driving is ok, but very tiring, especially in mountain region between Italy and Switzerland. Plus it is cheaper to rent a car in Italy than in Switzerland.
